Is Judea and Samaria disputed, as Israel claims, or is it occupied, as Europe says?
First: Before your trip, you tweeted that you were going to visit Palestine, a country that doesn’t exist, which has no embassy nor capability to receive visitors officially, has never had a king in history, and is not recognized as a nation. As a people, prior to 1967 no one was every recognized as a Palestinian; that came about because of Yasser Arafat, an Egyptian who was born in Cairo, who went on to lead the Palestinian movement (aka the PLO).
Second: Both countries, the USA which you represent, and Israel, which stamped your visa upon entry, have officially stated in their respective Parliaments, that the name of the area is Judea and Samaria, and neither government refers to any area as West Bank anymore. Some news outlets do not agree, as would be expected, but you sir, are a representative of the government of the USA and you really ought to abide by its principles as enacted by Congress.
Third: Had your visit been properly coordinated with Israel, there would have been no problems. Nevertheless, to my view it is good that those who harassed you were detained by the IDF and/or Police.
Overall, Ro Khanna, you are either willfully ignorant, or misinformed, or purposefully misleading the public with your antics and your choice of words. You’re acting like a troll.
Finally: Part of all this comes down to words and semantics, and a difference of opinion. Is the land “disputed” or is it “occupied?” These words have different legal definitions. See below:
