The death toll would be a lot different had Israel focused on killing Gazans generally. In 2023 there were 2.3 million Gazans. Now in 2026 there are 2.3 million Gazans and still growing.
In 20the Gaza war of 14 when the West accused Israel of genocide as opposed to self-defense, the Gaza population was 1.4 million and did not change significantly during the 50 day war.
We are now many months into the ceasefire, when Israel has received all her hostages and dead back for burial – so there is no longer any emotional need for restraint. Israel had been restrained before, for fear of harming hostages or their remains. After getting all the hostages and the dead remains back THAT would have been the “right” time to start the genocide in earnest, if that’s what Israel really wanted to do. Obviously, the Jews do not want to genocide anyone – even an enemy as brutal as the Gazans.
Israel focuses on first determining without doubt who the terrorists ar, and then ceither caputring them to bring them to court, or else executing them on the battlefield. The collateral damage to Gazan civilians is the lowest rate in the world by more than half.
