Day 726: USA’s balancing act

Recently Trump said something to the effect of, “Israel, do not annex the Judea and Samaria. It’s not gonna happen.”

This prompted a comment from my group:

“Did you see this? Does it seem like a change in direction to you? I’m pondering this, but as the Lord has said to me many time in the last year, ‘Give it time and see what develops.’”

Now as meetings have developed, I see this simply as Trump taking “annexation” off the table, in order to counterbalance his other plan, which is to block Europe, Australia, and the “goat nations” from authorizing a Palestinian State in Gaza, WB (Judea & Samaria).

We see that after the UN where Netanyahu was treated poorly by the antisemites, Netanyahu then went to Washington where he was treated well by the US State Department. Trump literally stood beside Netanyahu as they each gave words to the press – and pending continuing backroom discussions – did not take any questions from the media at that time.

Things are in the process: Trump and Bibi want to create a comprehensive peace with the moderate states in the Middle East choosing to partner with Israel instead of Iran – and recruiting some of those states to help out with keeping a lid on Gaza and the WB (Judea and Samaria Muslims) going forward. So – to make these deals, Trump must appear even-handed: If he’s going to oppose the creation of a PA state, he also has to oppose Israeli annexation of territory, officially. Israel can quietly continue doing so anyway, as long as it’s quiet enough to not embarrass the USA.

Trump has insisted no negotiations are possible with this deal. Israel has accepted, Hamas is mulling it over. Trump has effectively blocked Hamas from their normal dithering and left them with only yes and no as the possible answers.

Here in Israel on Oct 1, the sun will set in a couple hours and Yom Kippur begins. Already things are closed down for the holiday, a day of mourning and fasting and seeking forgiveness.

500k Christians killed by Muslims in Nigeria and nobody cares

They don’t care about Christians dying.

They don’t care about Muslims dying
They don’t care about Jews dying

But if Jews get attacked, retaliate, no one complains as long as Jews are still losing.

But the minute the Jews start to turn the tide and win then suddenly all the shouting increases to a fever pitch demanding they stop.

Neighboring countries Syria killed 500k citizens and nobody protested.

Nigerian Muslims killed 509k Nigerian Christians in just one year.

But during a three year war in Gaza Israel saved 2.3 million Gazan lives while ending the lives of just 60k Hamas members and that’s taken over all the news? Gimme a break.

Finally! A call for PM term limits

Gantz applauds Bennett for changing his mind, while pointing out that:

“The law to limit the tenure of the prime minister was the first bill I submitted as an MK and one of the first laws I sought to promote in the change government together,” [Gantz] tweets, adding that “regrettably, the prime minister at the time, Naftali Bennett, opposed it.” – Benny Gantz, former Defense Minister (Israeli Gov’t Cabinet Member)

Day 720: Gantz, Former Minister of Defense: What the World Gets Wrong About Israel

A strong articulation of Israel’s current viewpoint can be found in a recent opinion piece by Benny Gantz, a former Israeli minister of defense and member of the war cabinet since October 7, 2023.  He argues that Israel’s security actions following the Hamas attacks are driven by strategic necessity, not partisan politics, emphasizing that the nation’s core security interests reflect a broad national consensus rather than the agenda of any single leader, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Gantz stresses that the October 7 attacks constituted a strategic rupture, fundamentally altering Israel’s security calculus and necessitating a robust military response.

He rejects the growing international push for unilateral recognition of Palestinian statehood, asserting it would reward terrorism and undermine Israel’s security consensus. Gantz points to the 2005 withdrawal from Gaza and the subsequent Hamas takeover as a cautionary tale, arguing that the Palestinian Authority has failed to provide accountable governance, combat terrorism, or cease incitement against Israel. He insists that any future Palestinian autonomy must be contingent on verifiable de-radicalization and security cooperation.

Furthermore, Gantz outlines specific security requirements he views as non-negotiable, including a long-term Israeli military presence around Gaza to prevent Hamas’s rearmament and the formal assumption of control over the strategic Jordan Valley in the West Bank to prevent infiltration. He underscores that Israel’s security is not only vital for its own survival but also anchors regional stability, protects global interests like energy and shipping, and serves as a bulwark against Iran’s regional ambitions and the spread of radical ideologies.

Protectors of Hamas want an apology for Israel’s attack

Qatar shelters and pays for Hamas, which in its 1988 Hamas Charter is dedicated to Israel’s complete destruction. Yet when Israel fights back in order to survive then Qatar feels entitled to an apology? Make this make sense:

Jerusalem Post, 21 Sept 2025 pg 1.

Hamas attacks Jews from Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, the West Bank (Samaria and Judea), and has leadership which dwells in Qatar with meetings also scheduled from time to time in Iran.

“Everything Israel does is a war crime. Everything. Killing civilians – war crime. Trying not to kill civilians – war crime. Bombing populated areas – war crime. Giving a population time to leave before dropping bombs – war crime. The surrealism of these screams of ‘genocide!’ every time an Israeli soldier so much as picks up his gun…

“…Got that, Israel? ‘Punish’ Palestinians and you’re a criminal. Do everything in your power to avoid ‘punishing’ Palestinians and you’re still a criminal. I’m starting to wish the Israel-haters would just say what they mean with their entire chest: ‘Let yourselves be killed, Jews. Don’t fight back. Don’t do anything at all.’…” (Brendan O’Neill writing for Spiked on 2023-10-16)

Day 691: Israel apologized, yet is vindicated

Israel apologized for its choice of weapon used; however the hospital did attempt to shelter terrorists.  Legally, this converted the hospital from civilian use into military use, rendering the hospital a legitimate military target.

But first: On Fri night, Yemen fired a multi-missile type of missile around 9 PM, which is Shabbat in Israel at a moment when families are gathered around the table for the feast.  This morning, 27 Aug at 5:27 am, Yemen fired again.  On Shabbat was the first time Yemen has used such a high-technology type of missile that splits in midflight from one missile to a group of missiles, making them harder to intercept.   In my area, I had to run for the bomb shelter on
Shabbat, since the air raid sirens sounded locally.  It was feeding time for my two male cats, so I took their food with me and they followed me into the shelter.  So then a couple days later on Monday the 25th, Israel retaliated at a Houthi fuel storage facility, and a weapons factory in Yemen, and also at top military leaders among the Houthi military.  So – Yemen ramped up the level of missiles, so then Israel escalated the punishment, moving towards assassinations, as Israel has done against nuclear and military leaders in Iran:

Jerusalem Post, 2025-08-25 pg 1.

Later that day in Gaza, the IDF took action at a hospital in Gaza, having information and intelligence that the hospital was now a legal military target, since Hamas had converted the hospital for military use.  Legally, that makes the location legal to strike.  Civilians died, and there had been some confusion about Hamas’ military assets, and so Israel apologized:

Jerusalem Post, 2025-08-26 pg 1.

In the end, Israel proved that six of the dead are terrorists in reality. Thus, the apology from Israel is now the choice of weapon used in the strike, not the strike itself.  The strike itself is legal; however, Israel questions who made the choice for that type of weapon, and what was the justification for that choice:

Jerusalem Post, 2025-08-27 pg 1.

This is the kind of nuance that is necessary to get the proper picture.
