Knesset is busy trying to win favor before October elections, now just before summer break which begins at the end of this week.
I bet they knew this law was a legal breach of the equal rights principle, yet passed it anyway just to curry favor with the Ultra Orthodox parties to keep them from leaving the coalition.
The High Court wasted no time. They froze this law’s implementation one day after it was passed by the Knesset.
As the editors wrote, why should an 18 year old from Ramat Gan be imprisoned for draft evasion while an 18 year old from next door in Bnei Brak go free?
Remember, it was reported yesterday that the draft evasion bill was just passed. Next day, the High Court froze the law from implementation pending further review.
