The UAE Deal With Israel: Is It Good?

Here in the Middle East, it’s not every day that some nation makes an announcement of peace with Israel. The last time it happened was with Jordan in 1994. Prior to that it was Egypt, and that’s it. But the question is – is this good for the Middle East, good for Israel, good for the world?

Incendiary Balloons

Israel is dealing with the plague; In the midst of political changes; Three national elections in one year; and then the neighbors pick up again with explosive packages carried by balloons, incendiary balloons lighting fires in the southern farmlands (this is a recognized war crime); Rockets fired at civilian homes (another war crime).

Taking the high ground, the army responds by targeting missile launch sites, missile factories, and terror tunnels (not a war crime).

Israel and the UAE…Really?

What’s been going on with the peace deal with the UAE and Israel? The United Arab Emirates has come out into the open, Trump has announced the agreement (The Abraham Accords), and Netanyahu has announced it, the agreement between the UAE and Israel has become public; I’m getting two main responses. The first is, for example: “The UAE can’t be trusted; they’re Arabs, they’re going to use the deal with Israel and stab Israel in the back;” And the other response is, “Well, whatever, what else is in the news?” In other words, “Why is this important?”

So, first of all, let’s take a look at Genesis 12:3.

Israeli Law in Area C

Israel, the USA, and the Gulf States are in discussions lately about how and when to apply Israeli law in Area C, that is, in 30% of the poorly-named “West Bank.”. The USA set this as a precondition for the two parties – Israel and the Palestinians – entering into negotiations to agree on final borders.

In any case, this part of Judea and Samaria would certainly end up in Israel. The USA wants this to be established (along with the Capital) before talks.

All Leisure Closed in Israel; Gatherings Limited to Just 10 People

During the week of March 10, 2020, the government issued the quarantine regulation as well as a ruling that no gatherings of over 100 people are allowed.

The new maximum number of people in gatherings is just 10.

All Travelers to Israel Are Now Quarantined 2 Weeks

It is now just after Shabbat here in Samaria, and the Israeli government just announced that all cafes, restaurants, gyms, theaters, gatherings of more than 10 people, (weddings too), the entire leisure industry will be closed in the morning March 15, 2020.

Workplaces and homes – people must maintain 6 1/2 feet distance (2 meters), while assuring everyone that there is no reason to rush and clear out the supermarkets, pharmacies, or banks – all the supply chains are maintained by sea and air. Not much was said about buses and public transportation, or schools.

We must keep faith up, and pray for healing miracles.

How can we make sense of Israel’s election results? Can the Bible help us understand how to cope? The third election in 11 months, the March 2, 2020 results are in, again, with uncertainty. Will the parliament Knesset form a coalition, or will Israeli Jews and Arabs, and Druze voters go to the polls for the fourth time?
